Video Game Detox - Day 20 of 30

Here's a short and sweet article about why we love RPGs from Oscar Navarro over at Gamer Culture. I think he's absolutely right with his 5 Reasons, but I intend to look into the details of those reasons in far more depth over the coming years. But here's a bit of gold for now.

"Everything we do in an RPG is centered on us, which gives us a sense of higher purpose and control of our destiny."

Oscar has identified the secret sauce here. Does RL give us a sense of control of out destiny? Sometimes, but not very often. So we fill that vacuum of longing with RPGs.

See you tomorrow? If this was an RPG, it'd be part of your main quest line, or at least a side quest with a decent XP and loot reward. In RL...who knows?!
